Well, Kinda of yeah. Planning to update some stuff.
  • By the switched to Fedora.
  • https://www.freedownloadmanager.org/blog/?p=664. Guys, Could you download the .sh file and see if it gives you any output ?

I wanna know cuz it gives Suspicious process crond found. I am kind of having a feeling that it is mixed up with something else.

If you are icky about the .sh file. Here is the contents in the paste :
    https://pb.envs.net/?a5172737102367bb#4sCQ8WVfh8HKeQcyTiiT1KKw1TN5Zn9hRuwuCg6nXrWn

I only checked the post after installing the Flatpak package of freedownloadmanager.
    Is this a False positive.

    I am fedora user.

I think the malware was only if you installed it from some sketchy site
  • if you do the flatpak / whatever the package manager gives you
  • I think it should be fine
  • Ikel Atomig
I kind of jerked and immediately uninstalled the flatpak.
  • #1 PowerShell Fan (on Windows)
I don't recall the flathub one getting malware on it
  • hmmmm
  • image.png
  • but if it was pulling from freedownloadmanager.org
  • tbh 🤷‍♀️
  • Ikel Atomig

And one thing I realized now. As I am in Fedora not Debian based ones.

And flathub is completely compartmentalized. So, It doesn't have the power to swap crond with the malicious crond.

I did convert .deb to .rpm using alien. But since it was this year. I should be getting the right package. Even then it failed during installed.

So, I guess. I am fine. But the output of the script is making me paranoid that I am infected

  • And I wanna know it.

So, To explain, the message was this - Suspicious process crond found. It is used to run jobs automatically basically like Task scheduler in Windows.

The affected linux packages used the crond to run their malware actions.

I checked the crond for scheduled tasks. Nothing else apart from Brave browser and system's power management.

As I understood, I stopped the process and checked using the script again. So, Basically false positive. I think they should make the script to locate that specific crond (scheduled task) than seeing the crond as a whoel.

Hello, I wanted to ask what you can do alternatively if you can not (or do not want to) use Qubes OS. I have thought a few thoughts and thought about how a secure PC could look like. I also try not to write a huge article. I’ll try to keep it short and simple. My idea would be to use a solid base system on which we could build with virtual machines. For example: Basic system (only internet conn...

  • Tor or proxies

Note that proxies don't do anything except give you a different IP.

  • Ahem, from the Tor FAQ:

Note: even though it originally came from an acronym, Tor is not spelled "TOR". Only the first letter is capitalized. In fact, we can usually spot people who haven't read any of our website (and have instead learned everything they know about Tor from news articles) by the fact that they spell it wrong.

  • A proxy will probably add a tiny bit of battery drain due to it having a constant connection. I don't have a list of good proxies.

An interesting question would be this: a) If privacy is a right, who can help us to have this awareness of right, obligation or would be responsible for it? b) If privacy is a goal, how can we achieve that goal? How can we bec...
