Typically an EXIF stripper does remove the a...

As I’ve been watching the AI gadget space there are a few noteworthy devices coming up that’s purpose is to record/film everything. Sounds neat, but there is a crucial privacy issue they have and it is a flaw I expect to see in other device...

Well, Kinda of yeah. Planning to update some stuff.
  • By the switched to Fedora.
  • https://www.freedownloadmanager.org/blog/?p=664. Guys, Could you download the .sh file and see if it gives you any output ?

I wanna know cuz it gives Suspicious process crond found. I am kind of having a feeling that it is mixed up with something else.

If you are icky about the .sh file. Here is the contents in the paste :
    https://pb.envs.net/?a5172737102367bb#4sCQ8WVfh8HKeQcyTiiT1KKw1TN5Zn9hRuwuCg6nXrWn

I only checked the post after installing the Flatpak package of freedownloadmanager.
    Is this a False positive.

    I am fedora user.

I think the malware was only if you installed it from some sketchy site
  • if you do the flatpak / whatever the package manager gives you
  • I think it should be fine
  • Ikel Atomig
I kind of jerked and immediately uninstalled the flatpak.

I don't recall the flathub one getting malware on it
  • hmmmm
  • image.png
  • but if it was pulling from freedownloadmanager.org
  • tbh 🤷‍♀️
  • Ikel Atomig

And one thing I realized now. As I am in Fedora not Debian based ones.

And flathub is completely compartmentalized. So, It doesn't have the power to swap crond with the malicious crond.

I did convert .deb to .rpm using alien. But since it was this year. I should be getting the right package. Even then it failed during installed.

So, I guess. I am fine. But the output of the script is making me paranoid that I am infected

  • And I wanna know it.

So, To explain, the message was this - Suspicious process crond found. It is used to run jobs automatically basically like Task scheduler in Windows.

The affected linux packages used the crond to run their malware actions.

I checked the crond for scheduled tasks. Nothing else apart from Brave browser and system's power management.

As I understood, I stopped the process and checked using the script again. So, Basically false positive. I think they should make the script to locate that specific crond (scheduled task) than seeing the crond as a whoel.

It got me thinking about the services I frequently use, but using family and friends account? Of course, sharing financial account is not recommended, but how about services such as Uber, Amazon, streaming services? Now, don’t think I’m selfish asshole who only cares about my ...
